Search for model lawyers

Shanghai has initiated its first citywide campaign aimed at choosing "Lawyers of the Orient" from 7,500 local professional lawyers. Shanghai Deputy Party Secretary Liu Yungeng issued certificates August 19 to an appraisal committee of 40 members consisting of delegates to the people's congress, celebrities, legal experts,scholars, government officials and media workers.Liu said the purpose of the campaign, which will last five months, is to choose a number of lawyers as role models to publicize the legal system and create a more favourable legal environment for the World Expo 2010.
